Um, hello fandom? Fyi, Barriss was a Darkside villain and you’re erasing half her characterisation

cyanwars:

I mean, I’m all for soft Barriss headcanons and shipping her in lesbians with Ahsoka and uwu and glitter if that’s your thing, but it never stops baffling me how this fandom full on ignores the fact that she ended up as one of the bad guys.

By the end, she is a Darksider using red lightsabers, totally badass and out to destroy the Republic. But where’s the fanart? The fic? Doesn’t exist. Half of her characterisation has been erased by tumblr. She is one of the most fascinating characters in TCW, and nobody. ever. talks. about. it.

Barriss is literally Anakin 0.5.

She grew up in the Jedi Order and internalised all the Order’s rules; she was the perfect dutiful Padawan, a kind soul and good friend – and then somehow, in just a few years, she became a mass murderer colluding with enemy agents and framing her best friend. And we were never told why. Did the war make her crack? Was she hardened by command, forced to send loyal men to die for a Republic treating them as chattel? Did she witness hundreds of thousands of clone deaths and decided a dozen more casualties would be acceptable collateral if it stopped the war? Or would she have caved no matter what, strangled by restrictive Jedi rules against attachment and love that choked the goodness right out of her? Did her Master’s willingness to letting her die for the cause contribute? Why did she choose to frame Ahsoka? Was it all worth it to her, or did she at some point realise she’d been manipulated? Was she manipulated, or was the bombing her own idea? If the Jedi Order had investigated further, instead of washing their hands of her, would they have stopped Palpatine’s rise to power?

Barriss is an incredibly faceted character with tons of backstory to explore, but nobody ever does and it’s such a shame. 😦
