Finally saw Venom last night and I have to say, people who said they were disappointed by the Venom/Eddie kiss because it was done through a female Venom (Anne) and it’s like?? I don’t know about you, but there was a wholesome OT3/4 going on in Venom and not a single one questioned their feelings??
I’ll admit, when Eddie revisited Anne, who got into a relationship with Dan six months after breaking off her engagement with Eddie (for reasons shown in the film), I figured I was not gonna like Dan, but no. NO. Dan was a goddamn MAN. SECURE AS HELL. A GODDAMN DOCTOR TO THE END. Eddie, his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend who may be a drug addict because he’s acting sketch as hell?? He could have gotten Eddie arrested for making a scene at the restaurant, could have been That Guy, but nope. Guy takes him to the hospital to do tests. Legitimately gives a shit about him and consoles him after a failed MRI, fucking FOLLOWS UP with lab results on what looks like his break, and did not question why Anne and Eddie were spending time with each other and was more concerned about Eddie’s parasite. Dan was compassionate as hell!! Said to Eddie, “but it’s going to be okay; were going to put you on medications, buddy.” And Eddie just respects him, at no point does he insult Dan. just mature ass men, my GOD 😭😭
And then Anne!! Badass as I knew she would be, but also set boundaries without shutting out the possibility of getting closure with Eddie. And yeah, we saw Eddie pining after Anne and it could have easily gone into a love triangle plot, but it honestly showed healthier communication between people having complex feelings than I’ve ever seen in the main MCU films.
Venom ain’t got time for bullshit. Gets straight to the point. “What actually made you stay?” “You, Eddie.” If that ain’t some romance cheese, I don’t know what is. The love was EVERYWHERE
Venom and Eddie are We, Venom and Eddie like Anne, Anne is there for support and for rescue but on her terms, Dr. Dan does his job. I legit would 100% be okay with Anne and Dan just taking in Eddie as their third, Venom and all, and they all just keep telling each other how much they care about each other, just constantly. I know it won’t happen, but I can dream.
Anyway, loved the film. Fun ride, good time. Were there issues? Probably, but in the world we live in where they’re trying to tell me A Star Is Born had a better romance than Venom, like who cares?
A lot of people are really scared and angry because of the results of the newest climate change reports — as they should be. But I’m already seeing a lot of posts and news reports like “HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING” and bizarrely enough, the answers are never like “weed out climate change deniers from your government, impose strict new rules for the corporations that are creating most of the emissions, pour government resources into alternate forms of fuel, etc.” It’s always like “carpool to work!”
Look. Of course you should be working to reduce waste in your own life. But let’s not fucking pretend that consumers are the ones who made this mess. You know what another recent study found? Just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions. If the rest of us stopped ALL WASTE and fucking ascended to a higher plane of existence that no longer requires consumption of any kind, the world would still be absolutely fucked if those 100 companies keep on as they do.
I hate this personal responsibility model when it comes to conservation. By ignoring the actual source of the problem and focusing on individuals instead, guess who gets targeted? The absolute most vulnerable individuals on the planet. When people advocate personal responsibility, somehow they’re never talking about billionaires and their private jets. They’re creating straw bans that will make life more dangerous for people with disabilities. They’re shaming women for using disposable menstrual products. They’re criticizing the poor and destitute for using “wasteful” products because they’re all they can afford. They’re making vaguely eugenic statements about getting people in “third world countries” to stop ~breeding~ so much. It’s monstrous.
Stop shaming consumers for the sins of corporations and their powerful investors. Stop placing the blame at the feet of the people who already have the hardest time getting through life. Do something, and by “do something” I mean buy a reusable coffee cup on the way to fucking vote. Go to a protest. Call a representative. Demand accountability from the people who got us into this mess.
All the individual effort in the world is worth naught without institutional change.
Yes, I do.
I believe most Jedi padawan would’ve profited greatly from a more compassionate
approach to their training. Anakin did a great job with Ahsoka because he
provided the emotional support a teenager fighting a war would be in desperate
need of. He distracted her, he supported when she became overwhelmed, he tried
to shield her from the worst of it, etc. And Filoni pretty much said as much:
“Then we
see a big, critical episode arc where Anakin and Luminara kind of compare
Padawans, Barriss and Ahsoka. And that arc, I think, really set an interesting
tone for ourselves and for the fans. We
were trying to illustrate the difference between the way Anakin is raising his
Padawan, and how much he cares about her, and the way Luminara raises her
Padawan. Not that Luminara is indifferent, but that Luminara is detached. It’s
not that she doesn’t care, but she’s not attached to her emotionally. And at
the end of the day, one of the questions that I guess I pose is, is that really
a good thing? Is Anakin’s way of being so compassionate wrong? Because on a
certain level, you have to accept that the Jedi lose the Clone War. So there is
something that they’re doing that’s wrong.” Dave Filoni
Barriss was
introduced to us – show and EU – as a kind person who was really passionate
about healing people and saving lives and I simply refuse to believe she lost
her way because she was “tempted by the dark side” as some fans suggest. I
believe Barriss was kid who was pushed into a war she had no business fighting
in without any kind of emotional support and that slowly destroyed her faith in
the Republic and the Jedi Order.
With Anakin
or another more compassionate Master, I believe Barriss wouldn’t have reached
the point where she would have to bomb something just to be heard. Also, I’d
bet a more compassionate and attached master would’ve noticed something was
wrong with Barrriss long before terrorism became an option.
They would
be given a choice: renounce their “dark ways” and return to the fold or be
considered lost. If someone was considered beyond “salvation” they would either
be exiled or killed.
“As Jedi learn more about the Force, it is not unusual for them to form their own theories about how and why it works. They question how, if the Force creates and sustains life, it can have a dark side. Some arrive at the conclusion that the Force is not divided into dark and light, that its energy is inherently positive, and that there is no “dark side” waiting to corrupt them. Time and again, this conclusion has been proved erroneous, and the Jedi who felt compelled to test the limits of the Force rarely perceived the dangers of their explorations. As they approached the brink of the dark side, some were rescued by other Jedi or came back willingly when they saw the error of their ways. Those who refused to renounce their mistaken beliefs were either exiled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, or destroyed.” [Ryder’s Windham’s Jedi vs. Sith: The
Essential Guide to the Force]
If exiled they would
probably end up in a prison like the Citadel. But, considering how the PT-era
jedi dealt with dark side users, they would most likely end up dead. Walking a way from the
other was only allowed when the person was not a dark side user. If you went
dark side, living peaceful away from the Order was not an option because the
order would consider them a potential threat to the galaxy. You would either
end up dead, arrested or on the run.
There is something so disturbing about this. The Jedi Council decides who is Dark. The Jedi Council gets to decide who to imprison or kill without any civilian oversight. The Citadel was a really big prison. How many people were imprisoned there? How many people there were from rival Force tradions? How many people were former Jedi the Council decides were too dangerous, politically, spiritually, or otherwise, to be out in the world?
I’ve been
thinking about this a lot too but sadly we don’t have enough info on the
Citadel because of that little problem called Disney cancelled the show and the
EU because the authors had time to delve into its history. But the information
we do have doesn’t paint a pretty picture:
The Citadel was intended as a flawless
contingency for an unthinkable problem – the stark prison was built to hold Jedi,
should any in the Order ever turn against the Republic. Constructed 500 years
before the Clone Wars,
it fell to Separatist control when the planet Lola Sayu was conquered by the
Confederacy early in that conflict. The Separatists populated the prison with battle
droids, and used it to hold Republic captives. It is an imposing, heavily armed
fortress seated atop a monolithic butte. [x]
We know it
worked as a Jedi prison for 500 years which more than enough time for many
beings to be imprisoned and die there without a trial.
