What’s the most ridiculous false rumor that has been spread about you?

I joined my wife’s workplace about 12 months after she joined. When we worked together (same department, same roles), we’d keep mostly away from each other so not to crowd each other. When we’d take breaks, we’d be hanging out together. You know, normal stuff.

Thing is, no one picked up on the fact that we were husband and wife. They knew she was married, and that I was married – but not to each other.

Someone saw us holding hands on the walk back to our car after work, someone else saw us kiss when I dropped her in to work when I had the day off, and rumours started flying around that we were cheating on our significant others.

People took it upon themselves to ‘intervene’ and approached me to tell me she was married and that I should be ashamed of myself. Someone else made a comment to her that she should be more discreet if she was going to continue on her relationship with me.

Truth be told, we both found it pretty fucking funny. Didn’t get a chance to run with it, because we were so taken aback by it when it was brought up to us individually, that we just blurted out the truth on the spot.

Cody and Rex get married the day before they’re shipped out of Kamino to different batallions. Their batallions know they’re married, but not to whom so the first time the 212th and the 501st have a co-op, some vode see them flirting / bumping hands and helmets and are really worried they’re cheating on their respective spouse. They try and intercept meetings / time alone until Rex and Cody catch on and are like: Yeah, we’re married… TO EACH OTHER!

I need that fic.

Well here’s the fic for you, @izzysuniversestuff . Enjoy!

“We’re being deployed tomorrow, cyare. With the war going on, will we ever get the chance to get married?” Cody asked softly, resting back against Rex’s chest, safe in his arms.

“Well, why not just get married now?” Rex suggested. Cody pulled away, looking over his shoulder at Rex like he was insane. “What?”

“Right now, now?”

“Sure. Cody, will you marry me?” Cody beamed, turning fully to throw his arms around his cyare’s neck. He pressed a long kiss to Rex’s lips, which he had no problem returning, murmuring something along the lines of a thousand yesses. He never wanted to let go, but alas they were human and had to breathe and therefore pull away eventually, breath heavy and the other pressed close. Rex nuzzled his head into Cody’s neck, “All we need now is a witness and someone to make it official.”

“Hey lovebirds, you gonna flirt all night?” Brye asked jokingly, hanging upside-down from his sleeping pod. Rex pulled back from his boyfriend to flip him off. One of Cody’s squad brothers-Rex believed his name was something like Kree?-leaned into view, asking, “What about the lovebirds?”

“Great. Kree, marry us?” Cody requested. Brye sputtered, falling to the ground with a thud. Kree looked absolutely baffled. “C’mon, we ship out tomorrow. Please?”

“Okay, uh–” Kree muttered something. He checked down both sides of the halls before looking back again. Brye stared at them wide-eyed from his place sprawled out on the floor. “Alright. We are gathered here today to see you two marry. Speak your vows.”

Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar’tome, mhi me’dinui an, mhi ba’juri verde.”

Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar’tome, mhi me’dinui an, mhi ba’juri verde.”

“Now, you may kiss.”

They shared a short kiss. Rex couldn’t help but smile and intertwine hands with his now-riddur. They thanked their brothers and, although with hesitance, they said their good-nights and left.

They only managed to see each other once the next day and that was when they departed. It was barely long enough to exchange goodbyes, silent ‘I love yous’ through shorthand when the Kaminoans turned their backs, and brush their gauntlets together when they parted. Rex couldn’t bear to watch the way Cody tilted his head just a little bit and relaxed his shoulders ever so slightly when their eyes met through the t-slits in their helmets, knowing exactly what it meant. He mirrored it.

That was the last time he saw his beloved before the hatch door closed.

Weeks passed by without fail.

There were occasional times, most quite late at night, when they both managed to spare enough time to call each other. They would speak for hours in the darkness of their rooms, feeling the light of the hologram flicker over their hands when they moved to touch. They lasted until one would be lulled to sleep by the other’s voice. The other would whisper ’Ni kar’taylir darasuum gar’ and they would both wait until their next chance to talk.

Weeks turned into a month. One month into two, then three, four, six, ten, and soon enough a year. By then, Rex was a Captain in the 501st and Cody was the Commander of the 212th.

Brye snapped his fingers in front of Rex’s face. “Hey, you catch that Alor’ad?” He asked, still walking beside him from leaving the meeting. Y’know, the one Rex wasn’t paying attention to because he was an idiot and decided it would be okay to stay awake for the past 72 hours.

“No,” Rex muttered, not looking up from his datapad. “What, was it important? It had better be.”

“General Kenobi’s coming for a co-op mission,” Brye repeated. “Thought you might wanna know.”

“Mmhm. And why would that be?” Rex asked.

“General Kenobi commands the 212th, Rex.” Those simple words sent the Captain tripping over his own feet and dropping all in his hands. The 212th arriving meant Cody would be there. He sent his batch brother a look, grabbing his arm and pulling him aside.

“When do they arrive?” He asked quickly, unable to control the sudden rush of excitement washing over him, even with his bucket on.

“Tomorrow, sir,” Brye said with a smile. He didn’t object Rex pulling him into a quick hug, watching him go with a laugh as he sprinted down the hall, practically bursting at the seams with euphoria.

Rex slammed into a wall in his rush. A couple startled and particulairly jumpy shinies nearly shot him when they heard the crash. He ignored that fact, slamming his hand on the button that opened the door to the command center. He stumbled in on Commander Tano and General Skywalker discussing whatever-he didn’t care at the moment. “General,” he said, a mess of raw emotion, “is it true that the 212th are coming tomorrow?”

Let’s just say Kix had to force him down and sedate him for him to get any sleep that night.

The next day, no one could get him to stop smiling or chattering happily. Even though most of it was in Mando’a and half the ship didn’t understand a word he said anyways. Then the time came where General Skywalker was to introduce Rex to General Kenobi and his Commander. He saw them from down the hall first.

Cody was facing away from him, speaking with General Kenobi. He held his bucket at his hip. He left his posture open and from the small gestures he made, it was easy to see that he was extremely happy. Rex pulled off his helmet, throwing it aside, yelling at the top of his lungs, “Codes!”

When Cody turned to object to the nickname, all he saw was his riddur running towards him. His helmet hit the ground, his love’s name spilling from his lips. Before he knew it, Rex crashed into him and was in his arms again. They tumbled to the ground, a mess of limbs, emotions, and light-hearted laughter. “Riddur.” Cody pulled Rex into a breathless kiss, barely able to form the words after. “Dir, Ni graot’ir gar bid ketye.”

Bic b cuyir chaaj’yc mr munit, Cody. Gar ru hbaih tion’solet Ni graoti’r ibic, graoti’r gar,” Rex said softly, tightening his grip around Cody’s torso. Cody only smiled, holding him close.

“I see you two are already quite well acquainted.” General Kenobi coughed, smothering a small laugh. General Skywalker, however, was snickering lowly and not bothering to hide it in the slightest. “I suppose there is no need for introductions then.”

“See, I told you my General was nicer than yours,” Cody said. Once Rex got up and help him to his feet, he hit him upside the head. Cody hit him back. “Hey! Rude.”

“Rex, go show the Commander around,” General Skywalker suggested, gesturing back the way they came. Rex nodded and saluted to the two generals. The clones were quick to gather their helmets and leave. “They’re probably from the same batch. Rex mentioned he hadn’t seen any others besides Brye since they got shipped out.”

“I’m not so sure Anakin. They seem a lot closer than that,” General Kenobi pointed out.

Cody bumped shoulders with Rex, laughing freely once they were far down the empty hall. The two spoke and wandered the ship for so long, and yet it felt like so little time had passed. They stood shoulder to shoulder, brushed gauntlets, and bumped shoulders, never leaving each other’s side and near always touching. They had been apart for a year, they deserved some time together!

“Hey, y’think Alor’ad knows that the Commander is married?” Fives blurted that night. He was seated next to Echo on his bunk, looking through a few datapads with him. He looked something over again over Echo’s shoulder and said softly, “You misspelled this one here.”

“Huh. Thanks, vod,” Echo answered quietly before returning to his earlier tone. “I mean, I would hope he’d know. What worries me more is the fact that he himself is married.”

“Well maybe they’re batchers. I mean, look at the way you guys act,” Hardcase suggested. He hung upside-down from his bunk, which he was specifically told not to do by Kix because of an incident that ended up with Hardcase staying in the medbay for a week. Kix didn’t sleep for two.

“Hey!”

The door opened, and Tup fell face first in a heap of distress onto the floor. Dogma looked up from his armor. Jesse looked down from his bunk, seeming mildly amused at all this. Tup propped himself up on his elbows, “I think I just saw something I wasn’t supposed to see, or I’m hallucinating.”

“What did you see?” Dogma asked, going back to looking over his chestplate.

“Captain Rex and Commander Cody kissing in the training room.” Dogma dropped his chestplate on his foot, cursing. Jesse just turned away, sighing loudly. Hardcase fell to the ground with a string of curses. Echo hit his head with the datapad in his hands, murmuring about Rex being more of an idiot than he thought.

Fives simply looked over the side of the bunk at Hardcase, saying, “Still think they’re just batchers?”

That was when Brye walked in, nearly tripping over Tup. He helped him up, looking around at the chaos that was the barracks. “What’s going on?”

“We’re talking about Captain Rex and Commander Cody. Do you think they know they’re both married?”

“Don’t you guys know they’re–” Brye took a breath, smothering a laugh. Of course these di’kute wouldn’t know those two were married to each other. He had to leave the room before he started breaking his ribs from laughing too hard.

A few days passed and there were multiple occasions where both the 501st and the 212th had caught Rex and Cody in similar situations that Tup had. One time, Waxer and Boil had seen Cody sprawled out over Rex’s legs, Rex playing with his hair while he worked on a report. Another, Jesse found Rex curled up, knees pulled to his chest, leaning into Cody’s side and face pressed into his neck, Cody was leaning his head on Rex’s and arm around his shoulders, murmuring sweet nothings in Mando’a, and Jesse left the room. And after that, Kix came into the medbay for his shift after a mission he wasn’t on, Rex was already there, injured and yet still checking on his men before himself. Kix forced him back into a cot when he was done and made him go to sleep. Commander Cody came in later, did his rounds just like the Captain did, and pulled up a chair next to Rex’s cot. He held his hand, kissed his knuckles, and whispered an apology when Rex stirred and turned on his side towards Cody, said “I love you, cyare” and didn’t speak again afterwards.

The troopers decided they needed to intervene. Fives grabbed Rex by the arm the next time he passed by the barracks. In the 212th temporary barracks, Crys grabbed Cody and dragged him inside.

“All due respect, sir, we can’t control you, but this is a bad idea,” Gearshift said as the door closed behind them.

Cody was confused, “What’s a bad idea? Last time I checked, I haven’t done anything wrong.”

“Sir, how could you not notice?” Trapper questioned. “You’re cheating on your spouse!”

“Okay,” Cody sighed. He hit Trapper upside the head, beginning to pace already. “First off; no, I am not cheating on my spouse. Second; how dare you ever even assume I would ever that in the first place! Third; who could I possibly end up cheating on my spouse with in the first place?”

“Captain Rex.”

Cody stopped pacing, pinching the bridge of his nose and let out a heavy sigh. He motioned for the rest to follow behind him. Leaving the room, his troopers trailed silently after him. If he had to explain it to his men, he was going to explain it to Rex’s men. He wasn’t gonna say this twice.

“I’m not denying it, I’m saying it’s not true.” He could hear Rex’s exasperated voice from the other side. “Brye, you were there when we got married, help me out.”

“No way, vod,” Brye snickered. “This is payback for last week.”

“Oh you shabuir.”

The door slid open. Cody stood with his arms crossed over his chest, looking really disappointed and annoyed. He elbowed Brye, who was stationed beside the door, in the ribs, walked over to Rex, and motioned for his troops to join the 501st. They shuffled over to join the boys in blue.

“Oh thank god you’re here, these di’kute and trying to stage an intervention!”

“I know. My own battalion just did the same thing.” Cody sent a swift glare across the room. “Let us set the record straight. No, we are not cheating on our spouses. Even if we did, it would not be with each other.”

Rex kicked his shins before turning back to the boys in blue and gold. “Yes, the two of us are married. We are married.”

Echo raused his hand in the back of the over-crowded room. He said, “Alor’ad, you just saud the same thing twice.”

“No, I did not Echo. If you listen closely, I said we are married,” Rex repeated. “Cody and I are married. We can’t possibly be cheating, because we are husbands.”
