Idk, all this talk of how the Jedi suck at their duties… yes, they do! But, honestly, do they even stand a chance not to? I mean, how many is there fully fledged Jedi knights? Ten thousand tops? How many is there inhabited planets in GFFA? Ten thousands? Hundred thousands? How many is there sentient beings on Coruscant alone? Trillion? Considering the number of conflicts and problems on our very own puny Earth…. I mean, this can’t work even if every single one of then was a Superman? 1/2

padawanlost:

2/2 GFFA should clearly find some other system. I mean, I can blame them
for being  unfair to Anakin or Bobba but not for failling to keep
trillions of trillions of sentients at peace and guaranteering justice
for them all! That’s plain ridiculous given their numbers. They should
be a sort of special unit, not the main/sole source of protections of
citizens. Surely there must be someone else?! The Republic must have
some other organizations to enforce its laws? They can’t rely on couple
thousand

I think you might be
mistaking their legal duty with their moral one. Legally speaking, you are
absolutely right, it was not the Jedi Order’s job to micromanage by reaching
out to every single being in the galaxy and saving them. However, it was their
moral obligation to help anyone who came their way because they put themselves in
that position.

Btw, they were not the
main/sole source of protection for the galaxy. Each planet had their own law enforcement
system in place. The Republic’s citizens had police officers at their disposal.
The role of the Jedi Order, as part of the Judicial department, was to act as
diplomats and peacekeepers whenever the Senate deemed necessary. But, they advertised
themselves as more than that. They built their reputation not only as the
protectors of the Republic’s interests but as protectors of the galaxy itself.

“It is a misconception
that we serve only the Republic, Magister. Our Order serves the greater good.” [James
Luceno. Darth Plagueis]

And once they put
themselves in that position people can and should judge them for all the times they
could’ve done something but didn’t.

Look at Qui-Gon’s
actions in Tatooine. No one blames him for not singlehandedly abolishing slavery but we can
blame him for not doing anything at all to improve the lives of the slaves he
could help.  They blindly followed
the orders of a corrupt politician and ended up slaughtering a bunch of
mandalorians and allowed the only survivor to be sold into slavery. The Jedi
Order, protecting the corrupt interests of the Republic, allowed a innocent
planet to be put under heavy sanctions which resulted in death and famine on a
global scale. And these are just some of many
many cases where the Jedi failed to help or actually made a situation worse.

The Jedi order faces
so much criticism (and in-universe and in RL) not because of what they couldn’t
do but because of what they could, but didn’t.
