2/2 However
Boba landing in that prison has less to do with his age but more with the
severity of his crimes, even aside from attacking and trying to assassinate a
Jedi Master. He destroyed a Republic Star Destroyer with likely more than 7000
lives lost (a Venator-class holds a crew of 7400 + possible guests) which in
the eyes of both the Jedi Order and Republic High Command makes him a very
dangerous terrorist. For the Republic the severity of the crime seems to mean
more than the culprits age.It would be hypocritical us to turn on Boba
for seeking “justice” for his dead parent when we understand Anakin for making
the same choices. As for Mace, there is a problem with the idea that he can’t
control himself because that’s truly the case then he shouldn’t be anywhere
near a battle. But this is a problem with ALL the Jedi, not just Mace. They ALL
are influenced by internal and external forces (emotions, prejudices, politics,
etc) but they act like they aren’t. That’s a problem because it creates the
false idea that they are always justified because they are always rational and unbiased. Their inability to admit they too
lose control and make harsh decisions is what prevents them from seeing the
whole picture. We see this in Mace inability to sympathize with Boba’s pain and
or show any sign of remorse. When you don’t doubt your actions or your
motives, it’s harder to put yourself on the other person’s shoes and relate to
with their cause or their pain. If your actions are justified then so were the
consequences of these actions, and if everything was justified then what’s the
point of regret or remorse?“‘Ah, I see. You
can do whatever you want, so long as you maintain your Jedi
calm? So long as you can tell yourself you’re valuing life? You can kill and kill
and kill and kill, so long as you don’t lose your temper?’ She shook her head,
blinking astonishment. ‘Isn’t that a little sick?’[Matthew Stover’s The New
Jedi Order: Traitor]If you can’t feel remorse or any kind of pain because these feelings
imply suffering and suffering is evil then can’t truly empathize with your “enemy”
and that’s why Boba is sent to an adult prison, why Ahsoka was expelled from
the Order, Barriss was locked away never be seen again and Anakin was left to
burn. Because their compassion is a sham. There’s no compassion without empathy.Central Detention Center: The Republic Central Judiciary Detention Center was located on
Coruscant, and housed political
prisoners as well as common criminals. Clone shocktroopers kept order in
the sprawling facility, whose inmates during the Clone Wars included Cad Bane,
Moralo Eval, Boba Fett, Bossk, Aurra Sing and Ziro the Hutt. [starwars.com]As for the
prison, everyone regardless of age, gender or crime got locked up together. The
severity of his crime made no difference because all criminals ended up there. The responsibility is on Jango for introducing
him to that left, but expecting a twelve year old to make constructive,
mature, moral decisions with no guidance is pretty insane.
But this
has nothing to do with Jango. We
are not debating whether or not Boba was right (he wasn’t), the point is whether
or not it was right to put him in a prison with the worst adult criminals in
the galaxy. Jango is responsible for involving Boba in his plans but he’s not responsible for the Jedi imprisoning a kid with adults.
