I feel like Rex only likes Anakin in that way that employees with shitty jobs like their managers/bosses. I have absolutely no reason to think this/no evidence to support this except for the fact that Anakin doesn’t care about clones and he’s always praised for his battle strategies.

Remember when Anakin’s battle strategies consisted entirely of “follow me” and charging head first into a slew of droids despite the high casualties those strategies would bring.

Remember in the movie when they were climbing the cliff at Teth and instead of at least trying to keep an eye on Ahsoka and his men he was yelling at them to hurry up. He told Rex to hurry up when there were men dying around him.

Remember on Geonosis when he turned the battle into a droid-killing game.

Remember how in the Umbara Arc they pointed out that the only difference between Krell’s disastrous strategies and Anakin’s is that Anakin is at least at the front.

Remember when Anakin refused to wipe R2D2′s memories and thus risked multiple clone’s lives to get him back because of his own selfishness.

Remember during the Zygerria arc where all the Jedi completely ignore how Rex must feel despite his being second worst experience physically, after Obi-wan’s who was only bad because he was beat on a lot. Literally nobody checked in to see if he was okay after being a twice-over slave. 

Remember Anakin’s tendency to disobey orders and just do what he wants regardless of whether his men are up to the task or what the consequences might be.

The most we get is Anakin telling Dogma to get some rest and him putting his hand on a trooper and calling for a medic after a bomb went off.

Anakin (FORMER slave) not once acknowledges that the clones are slaves and thus have even less choice in their lives than he does. He never mentions their rights as people and uses them as canon fodder for his ridiculous plans. He may care on an individual level about Rex or one other person but there is no way in hell that you can convince me he sees the clones are more than war dominoes that he has command over.
