Under the right circumstance anyone could fall to the right side. If we
keep in mind that going dark side doesn’t necessary mean becoming a Sith Lord
and that using the dark side is nothing more than drawing power from “negative
emotions” such as hatred, vengeance, pain, then yes, absolutely, Obi-wan could
fall.In canon, he wouldn’t fall because that’s not his character function in
the narrative. The story doesn’t work if Obi-wan falls. But if we are talking
about a Kenobi whose actions are not restrained by narrative structures, it
would only be a matter of reaching his breaking point. In the TPM’s novelization it’s implied Obi-wan used the dark side to
kill Maul.Free at
last of the laser wall, Obi-Wan Kenobi charged out of the service tunnel and
into the chamber that housed the melting pit. Abandoning any pretense of observing even the slightest caution, he barreled into Darth Maul
with such fury that he almost knocked
both of them off the ledge and into the abyss. He struck at the Sith Lord with
his lightsaber as if his own safety meant nothing, lost in a red haze of rage
and frustration, consumed by his grief for Qui-Gon and
his failure to prevent his friend’s fall. […] Lightsabers scraped and grated
against each other, and the chamber echoed with their fury. […] Obi-Wan could sense his body weakening, and his fear of what it would mean if he, too,
were to fall, began to grow. Never! he swore furiously. […] Crying out in fury,
he cut triumphantly at the Sith Lord’s horned head, a killing blow. And missed
completely. [Terry Brooks, The Phantom Menace]Of course,
eventually managed to control himself and let go of his “dark emotions” but
this shows Obi-wan was not above feelings such things. What separated him from
people like Anakin and Ventress was his upbringing. He didn’t grow up surrounded
by darkness and learned from a very young age how to deal with those feelings. If
we put Obi-wan in situation where he would experience such strong violent
emotions against, he could be pushed into using the dark side. That being
said, I can’t imagine him ever becoming a Sith. Obi-wan had his faults but his
main attachment was the Jedi Order. He put being a good Jedi above everything
and everyone else. His desire to be good – the way the Jedi taught him – made
him let go of his family, a long list of lovers and his relationship with
Anakin. Becoming a Sith would contradict Obi-wan’s core drive. And there’s
nothing they could offer him that would make him achieve his goal of being a
good Jedi easier.
