This drawing has been in my head and been wanting to draw for months.
Something that I have realized until more recently, is that during the clone wars, both Ahsoka and Barriss went through the same traumatic experiences of war and the chaos it caused like any else that was involved in. However, they way they treated that trauma was completely different from each other. Ahsoka first of all had her master Anakin, who had no hesitation of taking care of her as she went through emotional failures and breakdown. And not just Anakin but Obi Wan undoubtedly helped as well, so did Padme and Rex and the other clones too, they all no doubt helped her greatly for the moral and emotional support while going though the war.
Barriss on the other hand, she did not had much emotional support, because her master Luminara, being one of the strictest among the jedi masters, and according to the Jedi way, they must contain their emotions, all on their own, basically to bottle up all the emotions, but that’s not a healthy way to care for trauma. Barriss being slightly older than Ahsoka, she was treated as an adult at much earlier age, but she was still a teenager, she got emotional, and because of the jedi way, she never was taught that it is okay to let out how you feel about yourself. It did not helped at all, that Luminara and Barriss weren’t always together, they were often sent to separate ways, so Barriss did not always had the one person that she trusted the most. Her loneliness, the trauma of War, and the bottling of her emotions, all of these eventually broke her down hard, and she never look for someone else to help her.
If only Barriss had the same emotional support support as Ahosoka, if only Luminara let herself be more open to Barriss and cared for her student’s mind, then she would had never fallen, she could had found a way to make her voice heard about the wrongness of the war without sorting to violence and terror, but she never did get that support
