I like to think that, despite when it was introduced to canon, the Deception arc in Clone Wars actually has a lot to do with what we see of Anakin and Obi-Wan’s relationship in the films. Obi-Wan’s declarations of love and attempts to pacify Anakin in RotS appear to hold no weight to Anakin, which contrasts greatly with what we see in AotC. He immediately dismisses everything as a lie, accuses Obi-Wan of planning something treacherous behind his back, of turning others against him. Obviously the influence of Palpatine and the dark side of the force have something to do with these delusions.
But I can’t help if they’re only building off of the unease and insecurity left over from having his former master fake his death without informing him, in an attempt to use his emotional reactions to gain an advantage over the enemy. And that it was Obi-Wan’s idea in the first place?
It must’ve shattered his confidence that Obi-Wan saw him as an equal and a friend. It must’ve given a whole new meaning to every time Obi-Wan picked apart his plans or teased him about being his former padawan, or about how much he displeased the council (the council Obi-Wan was a member of…). It must’ve made Anakin wonder, if even for just a moment, how much of their relationship was genuine intimacy and trust and how much was just Obi-Wan being the charming, but manipulative Jedi the Order demanded he be.
