So it’s not even October yet, but I’m posting this now because hopefully it will get at least a little circulation ahead of time.

I know most of Tumblr loves Halloween. But please respect that not everyone feels that way.

To be clear, I am not saying you can’t love Halloween. I’m asking you to not be a jerk to people who don’t. Especially because we probably have good reasons.

You know what Halloween is to me? Having to see ads like this on my Facebook and wondering why there’s no option to report racist trash:

Having to see people flock to defend celebrities I had crushes on as a kid

and their boyfriends

for dressing up like this:

Having to put up with people telling me I’m being ridiculous and that I need to just let people have fun. Because their fun is more important.

By all means, enjoy the holiday so long as you’re being respectful. But don’t call me a bitch for not sharing the same enthusiasm.

If you need me, I’ll be celebrating Mi’kmaq History Month.
