protip: if you’re contributing to a system of oppression, it doesn’t matter how nice you are to the victims, you’re still the one helping oppress them.
Slaves?? Bitsh please WE SAVED EM
… from what, exactly?
From being tools of the Sith? Wait, no, the Jedi found out about the chips in their heads that took away the clones’ free will, and did nothing. So, didn’t save them there, because the clones still had control of their bodies and minds ripped away from them.
From being forced to fight and die for the Republic? Erm, well, no. The clones are criminals if they desert from an army they had no choice to sign up in, as seen in Deserter. Cut was terrified Rex was going to turn him in, and he was just a man who wanted to live on his farm with his wife and stepkids.
From not having a family? Well, families are against the rules, again, mentioned in Deserter.
From not being able to live their own lives? Well… Again, not allowed out of the army. They, again, do not get to make their own choices. As seen in Hidden Enemy, Deserter, and Umbara.
From bad leaders? Well, it’s implied in Umbara that Krell had incredibly high casualties, but it never sounds like there was any disciplinary action. In other words, the Jedi just let Generals kill off their troops and request new ones without censure.
From being killed needlessly in battle? According to Legends, the false surrender at Christophsis meant troopers had two options: retreat or die. The CIS did not accept surrenders for the remainder of the war, so troopers had to hope their general was willing to retreat. So no, the Jedi stood by while clones bore the brunt of the casualties.
From being disrespected by the Jedi who lead them? Anakin and Ahsoka literally played a counting game while their troops died around them.
From having untrained leaders? The Order put children in charge. On both Felucia and Ryloth, Ahsoka’s immaturity and lack of discipline get the troops she leads killed, while for her the episodes write it off as a lesson. She is not stripped of her command, but instead goes right back to being back in charge after the episode is over. There’s no consequences, not lasting ones.
From fearing having to speak up and out? Umbara showed troopers almost paralyzed by fear about disobeying. The 501st split itself in half because of the question “do we follow orders we know are wrong?” Those men were terrified, and rightly so- apparently Jedi can just kill troopers who disobey or step too far out of line. It wasn’t that Jedi could execute people in the first place that caused the issues- it was that they just felt the execution in question, of Fives and Jesse, was wrong. That means they just accepted that firing squads are a possibility, which should be horrifying.
The only possible thing a Jedi might have saved a trooper from at any point might have been a blaster bolt or a falling rock, but considering the Jedi put those men on the battlefield and the clones had no choice regarding being there in the first place, I’m not inclined towards forgiveness.
