I think on problem I have with Karen Traviss and a
good amount of Codywan shippers is how they treat the clones when they aren’t important to the Jedi anymore. Or how Cody and Darman
are treated after Obi-Wan isn’t in the picture anymore, or when E’Tain dies.

As if a clone’s early purpose or their happiness and worth is tied
to their Jedi. As if there is no way that a clone can be happy or have a decent life after their jedi dies.

Like if you have a clone/jedi relationship and the clone’s life is
miserable after the jedi is out of the picture then it shows me that your
prime  use for the clone was for a fetish , and  an accessory to make your jedi
characters’ life either more interesting, or paint them as some clone savior or
sympathizer. After the jedi is gone, then there is clearly no effort to make
said clone have a happy or content ending. There is no effort to paint them as
deserting and finding their own life or finding their own path or whatever.

This is why I can’t really read too much CodyWan fanfic, especially when the author isn’t a person of color, because the handling of Cody is disturbing.

Cody is usually always seen as a threat, despite being a genuinly good man, and has to be threatened by Anakin,or Qui-Gon.

Like it just reeks of the Brute Caraicture trope. What SUCKS about this is in other fics when Obi-Wan is shipped with a white characters (such as Qui-Gon, or Satine), they’re not met with the scrutiny the same way Cody, a man of color is.

Qui-Gon treated Obi-Wan like shit and imo shouldn’t be shipped with him, but you guys act like he’d be better to Obi-Wan than Cody?

You guys need to really, REALLY take into account that Cody is a man of color, and if you’re shipping him with Obi-Wan, you need to treat him just as you’d treat white characters you ship with Obi-Wan. Stop assuming he’s going to be dangerous or detrminetal to Obi-wan, when in reality it would be the other way around.

Learn how to write poc, or just don’t write them at all.

And this doesn’t just apply to Codywan, but literally all Clone and White character ships.

Don’t feitisie them, don’t make them angry or dangerous? Write them like people, and write them to the same and equal standards you write white characters too.

Exactly. Like he is always written as aggressive and somewhat brutish
to Obi-Wan. Despite the fact that in canon he never showed rude, aggressive or cold
tendencies toward Obi-Wan. He respected Obi-Wan, and was Obi-Wan friend. There was
no indicator that prior to Order 66, his personality was anything like how
codywan shippers portray it.

And that’s the thing– Order 66 is literally what a lot of codywan
writers decide to build up on. Like they take the way he acted, when he was
stripped of agency and freewill, and roll with it. That’s how they make him treat
Obi-Wan in fics and see nothing wrong with it. Fics where order 66 hasn’t even
happened yet.

And you are right, people like Satine, or Qui-Gon aren’t written
as aggressive and brutish when they are shipped with Obi-Wan? So why do the
writers go out of their way to make this brute like character for Cody?

Like when I first got into the fandom, and started shipping codywan–i saw a of stuff like this. And I also fell into some of the harmful tropes, of making cody aggressive and cold and all. I’m glad I got past that but I hate that it’s so normalized in the codywan fandom.
