We kind of assume Echo was the follower and Fives was the troublemaker, but look who is getting into fisticuffs with Hevy
Look who talks trash during Commander Colt’s speech
Look who takes charge when they try to leave Domino Squad
Look who silently checks on baby bro Fives to make sure he’s hanging in there
Look who freaks when Fives takes a shot to the shoulder (and Cody has to tell him to keep fighting)
Look who is gung-ho to get flash-frozen and team up with some battle droids
Look who recklessly runs from cover, drawing enemy fire when Ninety-nine is shot
Look who isn’t afraid to show intense emotions such as grief and mourning
Look who rushes for the shuttle and breaks all our hearts and who stays cautiously behind
Then there’s this line from “Rookies” which was deleted from some versions of the episode due to complaints (way to be a bad influence on the kids, Echo)
And one of my favorite moments, Echo telling bad puns to Fives in the middle of their most important test as cadets (he looks so excited about it too)
In fact, when Echo was around, Fives would almost fade into the background, always behind while his brother took point. I have little doubt Echo was the leader, the trailblazer, and he was a huge influence on Fives, who tried his best to follow in his footsteps after he was gone.
I wouldn’t
say often. ARC troopers were definitely capable of carrying out solo missions but
such missions are not a common part of their assignments. The thing is, they
technically never went completely alone because there was always a team behind
them (the way military usually works).
The command
structure of the Grand Army was broken down into ten levels, ranging from
individual squads up to the Commander in Chief, the Supreme Chancellor. The
Order of Battle includes only infantry units, not clones who supported those
units, high-ranking clones in command roles, or the Jedi generals who took
charge of different units. (Total numbers are as of Sifo-Dyas’s initial order):
Squad (9
troopers): The smallest unit in the Grand Army is the squad, led by a clone
sergeant.
Platoon (36
troopers): A platoon consists of four squads, led by a clone lieutenant.
Company
(144 troopers plus support personnel): A comany consists of four platoons,
led by a clone captain.
Battalion
(576 troopers plus support personnel): A battalion consists of four companies,
led by a clone battalion commander.
Regiment
(2,304 troopers plus support personnel): A regiment consists of four
battalions, led by a clone regimental commander and a Jedi commander, often a
Padawan serving a Jedi general.
Brigade
(9,216 troopers plus support personnel): A brigade consists of four regiments,
led by a clone senior commander and a Jedi general. Some brigades were called
“legions.”
Corps
(36,864 troopers plus support personnel): A corps consists of four brigades,
led by a clone marshal commander and a Jedi general.
Sector Army
(147,456 troopers plus support personnel): A Sector Army consists of four
corps, commanded by a highly experienced Jedi general.
Systems
Army (294,912 troopers plus support personnel): A Systems Army consists of two Sector
Armies, commanded by a Jedi general, a role filled at this level by members of
the Jedi High Council.
Grand Army
(3,000,000+ troopers plus support personnel): The Grand Army as originally
constituted consisted of all ten Systems Armies, led by Supreme Chancellor
Palpatine as Commander in Chief. [
The Essential Guide to Warfare: Star Wars by Jason Fry]
The GAR
wasn’t structured in a way that allowed one man operations. The work that required
a true solo mission (like espionage) was usually left to the Jedi and non-clone
operatives.A typical ARC trooper’s mission was what we saw in TCW: team work.
I remember years ago listening to a doctor speak on the radio and something stuck with me ever since. I’m paraphrasing but the gist was this:
When someone who has been sad, distant, not themselves for a while suddenly starts going out of there way to see people, often giving them gifts or possessions don’t assume they got ‘better’. This is the time to really ask them if they are okay; to reach out and not simply accept the answer of ‘fine’ or ‘great’ or ‘never better’. Because for some people the relief of having made the decision to end their life can make them happy, euphoric even.
He pointed out that often this change in the person is such a relief to their friends and family after having seeing someone they love suffer, they just don’t realise what has caused the change and frankly they don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ because they are just so happy to have the person they love ‘back’. But in reality, the person they love is saying goodbye.
During the interview, he told the story of a colleague (back when he had a factory job before he became a doctor) who had been depressed for a long time. One day he came in and was really happy, people kept commenting on how good it was that he wasn’t sad and grumpy anymore. He gave people some of his things, took people to lunch. Went home and killed himself.
He explained that when the police came to talk to people, they told him it was a common story they heard “but they were so much better.”
So be there for your friends and family. Tell them what they mean to you. Let them talk to you without fear of judgement. LISTEN. Suggest people get help if you think they need it.
Finally, let me add: The world will not be better off without you in it. You matter. You will be missed. Please don’t harm, hurt or kill yourself.
Star Wars: Lightsabers – A Guide To Weapons of The Force by Pablo Hidalgo
ANATOMY OF A LIGHTSABER notes of interest: (NOTE: This is the 2018 version, so this is a canon reference book.)
A true lightsaber cannot be assembled by a machine, only those sensitive to the Force can construct one.
“Once the energy is focused, it leaves the handle from a positively charged energy lens inside the blade emitter. The beam is trapped inside an energy field created by the kyber crystal, which bends the beam back towards a negatively charged high-energy flux aperture in the emitter. To an observer, it looks like the blade simply stops growing, but this loop of energy creates the lightsaber’s distinctive hum as well as the spinning effect in the blade’s movements, making the weapon difficult to control for those without training.”
(This is probably what makes the blades so bouncy against each other, because they’re–as someone once described them–a bit like energy chainsaws, in the way that they’re a loop going around and around, rather than a steady beam.)
“A lightsaber is an extention of a Jedi’s Force awareness. Becasue Jedi let the Force guide their selection of the crystal, the vibration the crystal creates in the lightsaber blade helps Jedi center themselves and find balance in the Force.”
MYTH: Only a Jedi or a Sith can wield a lightsaber. FACT: "Anyone could pick up a lightsaber and use it, but lightsabers are extremely difficult to wield. Those used to swinging solid swords often find using a weightless blade a challenge–one that can have dangerous consequences. Only through rigorous training and enhanced senses through the Force can a Jedi use a lightsaber to its full potential.“
“Training lightsabers emit low-intensity blades that cannot cut and are not lethal. Contact with a training blade will only sting or numb an opponent; however these blades do convey an accurate sensation of holding a real lightsaber.”
“Most lightsabers incorporate a pressure activation lever that causes it to power down if dropped. They may also have a ‘lock’ switch that keeps the blade active, so a Jedi can throw a lightsaber some distance and guide its path through the Force.”
“Beyond its use as a weapon or an instrument of meditation, a lightsaber is a practical tool. Given enough time, a lightsaber can cut through most substances. Even shield-rated blast doors will melt after extended exposure to a lightsaber blade, making it nearly impossible to imprison an armed Jedi Knight. Most Jedi will not risk slicing through bulkhead walls or high-energy force fields, though, because cutting into such a powerful source could be explosive.”
MYTH: A lightsaber can cut through anything. FACT: The key to creating a solid weapon that can clash with a lightsaber blade is not the metal used in construction but rather the energy the metal conducts. Energy transmitted across a metal blade or polearm can foritfy a weapon so it can block a lightsaber blade. The electrostaffs of the MagnaGuard droids or the energized weapons of Supreme Leader Snoke’s Praetorian Guards, for example, pose a challenge to even trained lightsaber combatants.“
“Standard lightsabers and water don’t mix. While some protective measures do exist, such as flashback waterseals, lighting a lightsaber underwater can be a problem. The weapon may boil the surrounding water, spinning turbulance and making it difficult to control. Should a Jedi become submerged in water during the course of an assignment, he or she had best make sure the lightsaber is prepared for such a journey.”
“A Jedi who loses a lightsaber often builds another. In times of great need–such as the emergency of the Clone Wars–the Order kept replacement lightsabers for Jedi to use while they built a new one.”
“Above all, Jedi must keep track of their lightsabers. Should a lightsaber fall into the hands of an unpracticed or dishonorable person, it will almost always lead to tragedy.”
