There is no in-between. Seriously, look at this nerd. Flawless execution.
Fumbling dweeb.
He can dodge blasters like a pro
but can’t stay on his feet.
Do a barrel roll!
Even when he does land on his feet, he kind of flops over and needs help standing.
His close-range coordination is abysmal (baby where are you aiming exactly?). But he doesn’t always get decked in the face.
Sometimes he’s tripped and then gets decked in the face (he really needs to stop trying to punch commando droids).
He has better aim with his feet
except when he doesn’t
DO NOT TELL ME HE TRIPPED
CUZ OF THE EXPLOSION he was well on his way to face-planting even before
the detonator went off. Someone protect this panicky dork.
Bonus: “Deadeye” Hardcase taking care of Business™ while Fives flails like a drunken nuna.
What happened to Tup is one of the saddest stories in TCW. So naturally I wanted to dive in to it a bit! The dynamic between Fives and Tup is also really heartbreaking, and it showcases a lot of Fives’ quirks and tendencies for physical expression.
I will cover some of what happened in the inhibitor chip arc, so be forewarned.
At first, Fives is rough with Tup, as he usually is when messing with his brothers
but he keeps an eye on Tup throughout the next battle.
Fives reacts to Tup aiming his blaster
and tries to prevent it from happening
but of course, he’s too late (notice how Fives is the only trooper to DROP EVERYTHING in the middle of the battle to restrain Tup).
Despite Tup executing a Jedi in cold-blood, Fives isn’t frustrated like Rex or flummoxed like Kix – he’s terrified for his brother.
We kind of assume Echo was the follower and Fives was the troublemaker, but look who is getting into fisticuffs with Hevy
Look who talks trash during Commander Colt’s speech
Look who takes charge when they try to leave Domino Squad
Look who silently checks on baby bro Fives to make sure he’s hanging in there
Look who freaks when Fives takes a shot to the shoulder (and Cody has to tell him to keep fighting)
Look who is gung-ho to get flash-frozen and team up with some battle droids
Look who recklessly runs from cover, drawing enemy fire when Ninety-nine is shot
Look who isn’t afraid to show intense emotions such as grief and mourning
Look who rushes for the shuttle and breaks all our hearts and who stays cautiously behind
Then there’s this line from “Rookies” which was deleted from some versions of the episode due to complaints (way to be a bad influence on the kids, Echo)
And one of my favorite moments, Echo telling bad puns to Fives in the middle of their most important test as cadets (he looks so excited about it too)
In fact, when Echo was around, Fives would almost fade into the background, always behind while his brother took point. I have little doubt Echo was the leader, the trailblazer, and he was a huge influence on Fives, who tried his best to follow in his footsteps after he was gone.
the body language between rex and anakin when they find fives is like, so stiff. the moment they meet fives you can tell Rex wants to say more. But he can’t; he’s restricted and that’s because of Anakin. He is so uncomfortable around Anakin, he doesn’t want Anakin to be there because he knows Anakin will make the situation worse (and he does!! his outburst and lack of understanding gets Fives killed!!). Rex believes Fives and wants to say so much more–he wants to comfort him, calm him down and tell him everything will be fine. Fives is his brother, and Rex knows he can handle the situation. He also knows that Fives is afraid, and honest and just needs someone to listen. Rex didn’t want Anakin there, but he was there and that is where things went wrong. Anakin doesn’t even realize how much he was intruding in that moment between two brothers, he doesn’t even see the importance in the moment(hell it was even an important moment between Fox, Fives and Rex). He was aggressive, rude and didn’t even care what his presence being there had done. Anakin is to blame for Fives death, not Fox; his presence, his energy was so repulsive to Rex and you could tell. But Rex couldn’t speak out, he couldn’t say anything. He could only watch as a jedi got his brother murdered.
